New Microsoft ad have begun pinching apple’s weakest link in front of general public. I have to admit that a $699 HP 17″ laptop is no way comparable to apple’s $2799 unibody 17″ Macbook Pro in terms of performance and quality etc. But in current economic slow down with weaker purchasing power, majority of general consumers would be far more likely to consider price as a even more important factor when buying a computer.

With PC’s 90%+ market share, the excellent timing ad will make an great impact on people’s decision.

Yes, some might say that with apple’s “excellent” manufacturing quality, “superior” OS, and “responsive” customer service, it make a lot of difference on the overall user’s experience and you get what you pay for. Yes, but this is valid for those who has extra $$ to burn and who put performance and experience on top of pricing. Apple’s target customers are still professional and rich users. Better quality and services will save them huge amount of time and hassle, like bloatware and BSOD (Blue Screen of Death) so that they can have more time focusing on their works. In contrast, general customer will often look at the price tag before comparing spec. Apple’s premium priced power-horse will be ruled out at first place. Besides PCs will run smoothly if people maintenance and treat their PCs properly.

It amazed me that in macrumors.com, where majority of the members are Mac users and the rating and comments will be for sure biased in favor of Apple, the debate is almost tied on this subject, member’s rating is at (711 Positives; 999 Negatives) at the time I wrote this post. Numbers can talk.
